King Will and the Three Judges

Tools to help you train children to make good choices

Stories and picture language are a useful way to help a child understand and remember important concepts. Here’s a picture-tool to help with decision making.

When we’re making a choice, we have King Will and three judges to help us. The three judges are Voice of Reason, Voice of Conscience, and Heart’s Desire. King Will decides what we’ll do, but he listens to the three judges first.

Voice of Reason tells him what’s good or bad for us. Voice of Conscience tells him what’s right or wrong, and Heart’s Desire tells him what we want. Reason and Conscience always want us to do what’s good and right. However, Heart’s Desire sometimes has an “I” problem—I want what I like and what I feel like doing. He doesn’t always want to do what’s good and right.
