“Daddy, tell us the toaster story, please!” Long Romanian winter nights came with garlic toast, baked potatoes, peppermint tea, and stories.
“When I married your mom, she couldn’t swim. On vacations, I would get bored swimming alone. One day I had a fantastic idea. ‘Honey, I’ll teach you how to swim. If you learn, I will buy you a toaster. I promise.’ Your mom learned to swim. She worked hard, but she did it for me. I kept my promise and bought our toaster.”
Jesus made some tremendous promises to overcomers. He can’t really enjoy heaven without us. But we can’t enjoy heaven until we’ve overcome the world, sin, and the devil. And right before He returns, overcoming the devil takes on added dimensions, like overcoming his end-time deceptions to worship the beast and receive his mark. Rev. 13:13–17.
