May Your Name Remain

How to keep your name in the Book of Life

The Book of Life is featured in two unforgettable scenes in the Bible. One is the momentous final judgment described in Rev. 20:14, 15. Here, the disciple John tells us that those who do not have their names in the Book of Life will finally suffer the “second death.” Rev. 20:11–15. This is the death Jesus experienced for us.

The other scene is John’s view of God’s beautiful shining city, New Jerusalem, in Revelation 21. Only those in the Lamb’s Book of Life are allowed to enter that city. Vs. 27. Getting your name in the Book of Life is important! That happens when we respond to God’s love and allow His love to change us. John 5:24; 1 John 3:14. But keeping your name in the book is also important. Notice what Jesus said to the New Testament church in Sardis:

“I know your works, that you have a name that you are
