Why God Gave Us the Sabbath

Resting on God’s seventh-day Sabbath may reduce our stress and our carbon footprint, but its main purpose is far greater.

I’m glad that the One who made the universe has a plan that includes us!

While in one sense there is an infinite and eternal gap between the Creator and the creature—between the infinite God and a person He has made—nevertheless that infinite Creator has made possible a wonderful fellowship between humanity and God.

God gave human beings minds that could think like God. He created humankind with a capacity for sitting down with Him and talking things over face to face, mind with mind, heart to heart in close fellowship.   

You and I are precious to God because He made us in His image. Gen. 1:27. This fact is also important because it’s the basis of worship. He is our Creator; we are His creatures. That’s why we should worship Him. The Bible says, “O come, let us worship and bow down
