Two Gifts from Eden Remain

Not everything was left behind when Adam and Eve were exiled from Eden.

Two special gifts given to humankind were taken with Adam and Eve from the garden and passed to their descendants. One was temporal, and the other was eternal.

The first gift was marriage, the exclusive one-flesh relationship of a husband and wife. After Adam was created, God made him aware of his incompleteness by bringing the animals to him two by two and asking him to name them. “But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.” Gen. 2:20, NKJV. Then God used a portion of Adam’s own flesh to create Eve—his counterpart. This one-flesh relationship is possible for all who enter into the covenant of marriage before God: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Gen. 2:24.
