Giving Back to God

If He owns everything anyway, why does He need my gifts?

By W.D. Frazee

David, the aged king of Israel, longed to build a temple for God, but God told him, “No, your son will build it.”

So David said, “Well, then I can get things ready.” So he gathered gold, silver, precious stones, and cedarwood. He also encouraged the people to give. And as they came to a special service of giving, David was deeply moved because so many people were sharing in the joy of giving.

Now notice what David says in his prayer: “Now therefore, our God, we thank Thee and praise Thy glorious name. But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things come of Thee, and of Thine own have we given Thee.” 1 Chron. 29:13, 14.

Is it really true that everything we give to God, He gave to us first
